Email v.s. Pinterest Marketing: What's Best for your Business?

I'm breaking down Email v.s. Pinterest Marketing. And why these two tools are so important to the success of your business. It’s most certainly not one or the other, it's BOTH.

In this blog post, I am going to break down Email v.s. Pinterest Marketing. And why these two tools are so important to the success of your business. It’s most certainly not one or the other, it’s email marketing and Pinterest marketing put together to be a powerhouse of your business. I’ll also be sharing some specific strategies to use Pinterest to grow your email list today.

Email Marketing & Pinterest Marketing are the powerhouse combo that you need in order to grow your business in 2021. Pinterest drives your ideal audience to your site when they're ready to find you. Email marketing captures those people so that you can interact with them on a personal level.

Email v.s. Pinterest Marketing: What's Best for your Business?

Here's what you can expect from our time together today! P.S. you can skip around to what point you’re at in your business 😉.

Outline:

The Number 1 Mistake Most People Make When it Comes to Marketing...

Putting all of your eggs in one basket.

When you're starting out online, it's so important that you don't put all of your eggs in one basket. By that I mean, not putting all your time, energy, and money into only growing on one platform.

Especially if that platform is Instagram, Tiktok, or Facebook (platforms you can't control).

I see this happening all the time in business. People have a consistent and branded plan for Instagram, but when it comes to getting people off the platform, they have nothing.

What happens if Instagram disappeared overnight? It might seem unlikely, but when TikTok started gaining popularity, people got very worried that Instagram would die out.

It's not impossible that we could lose Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok and with it, you would lose the entire strategy behind your business. You would LOSE that audience since you have no other way to connect with them.

Instead, it’s important to develop a well-rounded strategy that will grow all aspects of your business on platforms you can control (i.e. your blog and email list). That’s why Blogging, Pinterest Marketing, and Email Marketing work so well together.

Having a blog setup gives people a place to go that belongs to YOU. Think of it as your corner of the internet. In your space, you control what they see, when they see it and how they consume information.

Getting people to your blog is your number one goal of Pinterest Marketing. Getting people to stick around and become loyal fans is the job of Email Marketing. So by diversifying your strategy, you're using Pinterest to drive traffic to your blog where you then capture them through your email list.

Using Email Marketing to Grow Your Business in 2021

Email Marketing is simply when you connect to your audience via email. It's one of the most powerful ways that you can connect with your audience in 2021. This is why it's surprising to me that only 64% of small businesses use email marketing to reach customers.

The global email marketing market was valued at $7.5 billion in 2020 and is projected to increase to $17.9 billion by 2027. (Statista, 2021). And this helps you because email generates on average, $42 for every $1 spent, which is an astounding 4,200% ROI. With numbers like that, it's easy to see why email marketing is one of the most powerful platforms around.

Also, 99% of email users check their inbox every day, with some checking 20 times a day. Of those people, 58% of consumers check their email first thing in the morning. (OptinMonster, 2020)

And finally, 78% of marketers have seen an increase in email engagement over the last 12 months. (Not Another State of Marketing, 2020)

When you add all of these things up, it's easy to see why starting an email list is not only helpful for growing a business, it's vital.

Using Pinterest Marketing to Grow Your Business in 2021

There are currently (Oct 2021) over 450 million monthly active users on Pinterest. And on that note, half of all Pinterest users have said that they use the platform to plan and make major purchases in their lives.

Imagine having a strategy to help you leverage 450 million users every month…

Even gaining just 0.01% of those users could make a huge difference in your business. Here are a few more stats that I think are going to blow your mind about Pinterest.

  • 71% of Pinterest users are women (this is actually less than in previous years, as men become more frequent on the platform)

  • 83% of users make a purchase after seeing something on Pinterest with users spending 2x more than on other platforms

  • 48% of Pinners use the platform for shopping. For comparison, it’s only 14% on Facebook.

If that doesn’t make you feel like you need to be on Pinterest YESTERDAY, I don’t know what will…

Pinterest is a freakin’ rockstar for your business.

So now, how can Pinterest work together with Email Marketing to grow your business better than ever before?!

How to Combine your Email Marketing and Pinterest Marketing Strategies for Success

How can you grow your email list?

When you post about your blogs on Pinterest, you’re creating pins that link back to your blog posts. When you’re posting about your email opt-in on Pinterest, you need to do the same thing! Create pins that you’re going to link back to a landing page, where people can enter their email addresses to get your free opt-in.

But let’s back up for a second. What if you don’t have an opt-in page or even an opt-in yet?!

In order to get someone to agree to give you their email address, you need to give them something in return. Gone are the days where someone will just throw their email out there anywhere. These days that’s prime and protected real estate. So you need to survey your audience and find out what their pain points are.

From there you need to create a specific freebie that’s going to solve that pain point. Once you have a freebie nailed down, you need to create a landing page where you’ll be collecting their email addresses.

You’ll also need an email marketing platform that will store their emails and automatically send out the freebie or free offer once they’ve signed up.

Let’s walk through the steps together.

  1. Discover what your audiences pain points are

  2. Create a freebie (free offer) to solve that pain point

  3. Write a welcome email sequence that will deliver said freebie when they sign up (opt-in)

  4. Create a landing page with info about the freebie and a space to collect their name and email address

  5. Connect it all together with an email marketing platform such as Convertkit

  6. MARKET the SHIT out of it!! (especially on Pinterest)

If you’re already overwhelmed with the above steps, let me help take some of that off your plate. I’ve recently launched a new service called Nail Your Freebie. This service is going to help you with steps one and two of this process.

We’ll work together to determine what your audience’s pain points are, then with my Canva Templates, you’ll be able to create a freebie that’s going to perfectly serve them. I’ll also help you create ways to upsell within your freebie so that people automatically know what your services and offerings are. You can get all this for only $97. How can you grow your email list with Pinterest?

Once you have the unique landing page for your opt-in, you need to start promoting it. You need to create 5-7 new pins, letting people know that you have this free offer for them. Create these pins in Canva, and make sure that each one of these pins is unique, but also that it’s on topic and click-worthy for your audience.

Once you have these pins, you’re going to want to add them to Pinterest, linking directly to the opt-in page for the signup. So if that’s on your blog, or on Leadpages you want to grab the direct link and put that in Pinterest when you’re creating these pins.

Use language that calls people to click and download. Let people know that they’re getting something for free when they sign up. Really experiment with your language and see what resonates with your audience. Then make sure that you’re tracking the number of clicks, responses, and engagements that you get.

Every couple of days, add another one of these pins to Pinterest. It’s going to be really good to put this on autopilot through Tailwind if you have that as a tool. Tailwind can help you automate this, so once you have the pins created, you can have them automatically pinning on a weekly basis for you.

Make sure that every quarter you audit your pins and free opt-in to make sure that it’s performing well and that your pins are getting good click-throughs for your engagement and growth. If something is not working, it’s important to review it and make changes for the maximum amount of growth.

You’re leaving money on the table if you’re not marketing your email list with Pinterest

At the end of the day, if you’re not marketing your email list on Pinterest, you are leaving money on the table. The average Pinterest user searches 8 times per month, that’s 8 times that your audience could and should find you and your opt-in on Pinterest.

It’s time to use Pinterest as a powerhouse to start growing your email list.
