Wondering where to stay in Lombok? You’re not alone! When I was planning my own trip, choosing the right area and hotel felt like the hardest part. Lombok has several regions, and each offers a completely different kind of trip, so knowing where to base yourself can make or break your itinerary (especially if you don’t feel comfortable driving a scooter).
In this guide, I’m sharing my top hotel recommendations in Lombok, organized by region to make planning easy. These include places I’ve personally stayed, hotels my friends love, and a few that are still on my own travel bucket list.
I hope this helps you find the perfect stay for your Lombok adventure. If you need more help planning your Lombok itinerary, read this post next.

Justyn’s Quick Lombok Recommendations:
🛵 For convenience: If you don’t want to rent a scooter, I recommend staying around Kuta. It’s a very touristy region, but that means it will be easy to get around by taxi and book tours to anywhere in Lombok you want to see.
🌴 My favorite hotel in Lombok: For the ultimate peaceful vacation to Lombok, I recommend staying at Lombok Souls.
🌋 For volcano trekking: You’ll need to stay at least one night around north Lombok (Sengiggi, Senaru, or Sembalun) for Mount Rinjani treks.

Where to Stay in Lombok (by Region and Budget)
Lombok has five main regions where most travelers visit, plus the surrounding Gili Islands. When I was in Lombok, I stayed in Kuta, Tetebatu, and Sengiggi. Depending on how long you have, staying in a few different regions can help you get to know the island better. From beaches to snorkeling and waterfalls, here’s a quick guide to Lombok’s main tourist regions.
- South Coast (Kuta & surrounding beaches): Perfect for surfing and beach hopping, with laid-back coastal vibes.
- Southwest (Gili Gede & nearby islets): A quieter area ideal for snorkeling, diving, and escaping the crowds.
- Central Lombok (Mataram & Tetebatu): Explore the island’s capital for sightseeing, or head toward Tetebatu at the base of Mount Rinjani for rice terraces and waterfalls.
- Northwest (Senggigi): A popular stretch with resorts, beaches, and easy access to day trips.
- North (Senaru): A common base for trekking Mount Rinjani and experiencing the local Sasak village culture.
- Gili Islands:
- Gili Trawangan – famous for nightlife and parties.
- Gili Meno – romantic and quiet, perfect for honeymooners.
- Gili Air – a great balance, especially for scuba diving.
A quick note about the Gili Islands: “Gili” simply means “island” in the local Sasak language. While the famous Gilis sit off the north coast of Lombok, there are quieter, lesser-known Gilis scattered all around the island (many of which are becoming more popular). This guide doesn’t cover Gili accommodation because I’ve only visited on a day trip, and I prefer not to recommend places I haven’t personally experienced.
Hotels in Kuta, Lombok
Kuta, Lombok, gets a bit of a bad reputation. It’s very busy, and it’s quickly becoming the backpacker and traveler hotspot in Lombok. In my opinion, it feels a lot like Bali, but having spent a lot of time in Bali, it’s still much quieter. There are a lot of international food options, and things do feel a lot more expensive in Kuta than in other parts of Lombok and Indonesia. Kuta is a major surf destination, and it has some of the best beaches I’ve been to in Indonesia.
You can choose to stay right downtown in Kuta, or a bit further away for some peace and quiet. We were about 5 minutes by scooter from the main beach and downtown Kuta.

Nadil Homestay (8.8 ⭐️)
I won’t lie, splashing out and staying in a beautiful hotel is one of my favorite things to do, but as someone who travels a LOT, I can’t afford to have those stays all the time. Instead, a lot of the time I’m staying in local homestays like Nadil Homestay. They’re so much more affordable than big hotels, and they help you support a local family (instead of a European who’s moved over to Lombok to start an Airbnb Empire). If you’re looking for somewhere affordable, comfortable, and much more local, Nadil Homestay is perfect. And they’re only about a 10-minute walk from Kuta Beach, so the location is ideal if you don’t want to rent a scooter.

Sunshine Homestay (8.6⭐️)
Another lovely homestay, about a 20-minute walk from Kuta Beach, is Sunshine Homestay. I haven’t stayed here, but it’s definitely on my list for my next trip to Kuta. You can tell that they’ve put a lot of thought into their rooms, and for only $13 a night (at the time of writing this post), you’re getting a lot for your money. I love that this homestay includes breakfast, and the reviews often mention that it’s clean and good value for money.
If you’re looking for the perfect affordable stay in Kuta, I’d book with Sunshine Homestay!
There are so many affordable, local homestays in Kuta that you can choose from. I highly recommend staying in homestays often when you travel, but if you’re anything like me, you might occasionally want to book a few nights at a fancy hotel. That’s where these next recommendations come in. These are some of the most beautiful hotels in Kuta that you can even book for just a night or two of luxury.

Rascals Hotel (9.5 ⭐️)
I love an adults-only hotel, especially one with a beautiful pool and ample seating. I didn’t get to stay at Rascals while I was in Kuta (it was fully booked), but this hotel is at the top of my bucket list for when I come back. The rooms are designed in the typical bohemian style that’s so common around Bali and Lombok. Depending on what room you book, you could have a gorgeous outdoor shower as well.
All of their rooms include breakfast, and they’re in a great location (located just above downtown Kuta).

El Tropico Boutique Hotel (9.2 ⭐️)
If you want a beautiful hotel that’s within walking distance to Kuta Beach and downtown Kuta, then El Tropico is a great option. They’re a four-star boutique hotel with gorgeous rooms, three pools, and all the friendly hospitality you can expect in Lombok.
I love that they have a fitness center, something that motivates me to keep moving when I’m traveling for longer periods. Oh, and did I mention that one of their pools is Adults Only? That means you can still escape the noise and find somewhere quiet to read your book at this stunning property.

Neptune Studios (9.2 ⭐️)
Neptune Studios is one of the hotels in Lombok on my bucket list. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a private pool and a big bathtub (even in Asia, where it’s hot 100% of the time). I would love to stay at Neptune Studios (in fact, it reminds me a lot of Lombok Souls, where I stayed in Sengiggi).
With a private pool, spacious rooms, work desks, and a gym next door, this hotel has everything you need for a luxe stay. It’s also located just over 10 minutes walk from Kuta Beach, which means you could easily stay here and walk if you don’t want to rent a scooter.
Will you be adding this one to your bucket list?
Hotels in Tetebatu, Lombok
After spending some time surfing and beach-hopping in Kuta, I highly recommend you escape the beach for Tetebatu. I loved Tetebatu, in fact, I think it might have been my favorite place that we stayed in Lombok. The whole village felt so much more local, and the scenery was absolutely stunning.
There are so many incredible waterfalls, rice paddies to explore, and monkeys hanging out in the Monkey Forest. Plus, I think we ate the best Indonesian food in Tetebatu. Make sure to stay in Tetebatu Village if you can. It was absolutely perfect.

Nirvana Hotel Resort Tetebatu (7.8 ⭐️)
This is the hotel we stayed at for our week in Tetebatu. The location is perfect, it’s right in the heart of Tetebatu, and the staff were incredible. They gave us a great deal on a brand-new scooter to rent for the week and helped us plan activities to make the most of our stay.
Breakfast was great (and included in the price), and we ended up eating a couple of lunches and dinners there. The pool is huge and overlooks the rice terraces. Overall, I really loved our stay at Nirvana and highly recommend it if you’re heading to Tetebatu.

Mimi Homestay (9.8 ⭐️)
Mimi Homestay has some of the best reviews I’ve ever seen. It’s also a more affordable option than Nirvana, which has a more hotel vibe than a homestay. Surrounded by nature, Mimi homestay also has a great location in Tetebatu, close to everything! It sounds like the host goes out of their way to help make your trip special, including taking guests on a walking tour of the area.
It looks like Mimi Homestay is an amazing option for accommodation in Tetebatu, and if I find myself back here, I’ll definitely book a stay.

Tetebatu Hideaway (10 ⭐️)
I didn’t stay here, but I met the host at the supermarket, and he gave me tips on making the most of my time in Tetebatu. The conversation started when he offered me a tour, but even when I didn’t need his services, he went above and beyond to help me plan my own adventures. I could tell right away that he’s incredibly passionate about tourism in his hometown, and from the looks of his reviews, his guests can see it, too!
While I haven’t personally stayed here, it’s definitely on my list of places to stay when I come back.

Tetebatu Flush Harmony (8.8 ⭐️)
There aren’t that many hotels in Tetebatu with a pool – in fact, the only ones I’ve included on this list are Nirvana and Tetebatu Flush Harmony. So, if having a pool is important to you, make sure to book one of these stays. This hotel is located right in the middle of the rice terraces, and it’s another property that’s right in the middle of Tetebatu. This means you can walk to nearby restaurants if you don’t want to rent a scooter (or if you just prefer walking).
While I personally recommend Nirvana in Tetebatu, if they’re unavailable, this hotel looks like a good alternative.

Stay Together Homestay (9.9 ⭐️)
As you can tell from my recommendations, Tetebatu is a very local area to visit! They have so many incredible homestays to choose from, but accommodation fills up quickly because each homestay usually has only a couple of rooms available. If you’re lucky, a room at Stay Together will be available during your trip. This was the homestay that we were recommended by some friends, but it was fully booked during our trip.
Our friends told us the food was amazing, the hosts were super friendly and helpful, and the price was really great for the location. If they have availability during your trip, they look like an amazing option.
Hotels in Sengiggi, Lombok
Sengiggi was the last region that we stayed in on our trip to Lombok. This used to be the main tourist hotspot in Lombok, especially because of its close proximity to the Gili Islands. These days, however, more travelers are choosing to stay in the Gilis or around Kuta.
We loved Sengiggi because it felt so much more local than the Gili Islands. Each beach that we visited felt like a local beach, with huts that you could sit at to enjoy food and a coconut, and locals swimming and enjoying the sunshine. Personally, I love this so much more than a curated ‘beach clubs’ style of destination.
A lot of Mount Rinjani Treks will pick you up from Sengiggi as well, so it’s a nice place to base yourself for a lot of your Lombok adventures. Here are some of my top picks for where to stay in Sengiggi.

Lombok Souls (8.1 ⭐️)
Lombok Souls was one of the nicest hotels my husband and I stayed in last year. As you can usually tell from my occasional luxury recommendations, I love any opportunity to have a private pool or luxe bathtub. Lombok Souls have beautifully designed villas with private pools in the garden. It was the perfect place to base ourselves for six nights in Sengiggi.
You can see a full review of our stay here.

Villa Marley (9.2 ⭐️)
If you want to stay somewhere that’s close to downtown with an incredible view and lovely staff, Villa Marley is a great option, especially if you’re traveling with friends. This villa sleeps six, so it was a little too big for just my husband and me to book for our trip, but I would love to come back here with my girlfriends for the ultimate relaxing reading retreat. I could sit by their pool with a book all day.
I don’t know about you… But I’m definitely going to add Villa Marley to my bucket list for Lombok.

Seven Secrets by Hanging Gardens (9.8 ⭐️)
For somewhere that’s absolutely incredible (if not a little White Lotus-y…), then definitely pick Seven Secrets by Hanging Gardens. We went here for a drink by the beach, and it was luxurious and beautiful, but it totally gave you that feeling of stepping right into a White Lotus episode.
This hotel is perfect for anyone who loves to ‘people watch’ by the pool, cocktail in hand. The rooms are beautiful, the beach is stunning, and if you really want to splash out on a luxurious stay, this is the place for you.
Now, of course, as you know from reading any of my blog posts, I am not in fact someone who can regularly afford to stay at White Lotus hotels; I travel way too frequently to have that as my nightly budget. And in Indonesia, you don’t need to spend that. As you’ve seen in this post, there are plenty of incredible homestay options that also help you give back to the local community while you’re traveling. Here are some of the more affordable accommodation options in Sengiggi.

Senggigi Homes & Apartments (9.3 ⭐️)
For a great little apartment with a pool, look at Sengiggi Homes and Apartments. They have everything you need for a stay in this part of Lombok, and they have very good reviews! People say the rooms are clean and the hosts are friendly and welcoming. What more could you ask for?
They’ve also got great wi-fi, and it looks like their breakfast is amazing. If you’re looking for somewhere more budget-friendly in Sengiggi, this could be the place.

KJ Gold House Senggigi (9.3 ⭐️)
The last place I want to share with you in Sengiggi is KJ Gold House. This is definitely more of a homestay, so you don’t have a pool – but with so many incredible beaches nearby, you don’t need one. They’re only a 10-minute walk from Batu Balong beach in Senggigi. They have excellent reviews, air conditioning, a small kitchen where you can cook your own meals, and your own private space.
Sengiggi tends to be a much more expensive area to explore than other parts of Lombok, so finding an excellent budget-friendly option like KJ Gold House is like striking gold.
Other Places to Stay Around Lombok
Lombok is a fairly big island, and there are even more regions to stay in than the ones I’ve shared with you in this post. I can’t wait for a chance to go back to Lombok and explore even more of this incredible island. If you have even more time or want to explore different regions of Lombok, here are a few places I want to go back to.
The ‘Secret Gili’s’ or Southwest Lombok: This part of the island looks amazing, and while the so-called ‘Secret Gili’s’ are quickly gaining popularity, you can actually choose to stay on Lombok and take snorkeling and beach hopping trips from there. This part of Lombok looks a bit wilder – something that I’m always looking for in my adventures.
Senaru: This is the typical part of Lombok that you would stay in if you wanted to do a Mount Rinjani Trek (something that’s totally on my bucket list), but here’s the thing – most people only come for a night! This region actually has so much to offer, from hiking to waterfalls and local villages. I would definitely recommend exploring Senaru rather than just staying a night to begin your trek.
And don’t forget to head off the beaten path for yourself! Blogs and social media are a great way to get an idea of where to travel… but they also lead to massive over-tourism. You can be a responsible traveler by deciding to skip the popular viewpoint and instead head out in search of your own. Talk to the locals and look at the map, maybe you’ll find your own secret oasis in Lombok that’s truly a secret.
Traveling Responsibly in Lombok
Choosing where to stay in Lombok is going to depend on what kind of adventure you’re looking for, who you’re traveling with, and how comfortable you feel driving a scooter. Lombok is a beautiful island with so much to offer, from incredible surfing to hiking, snorkeling, and beach hopping. It quickly became one of my favorite places in Indonesia.
It’s also a place that’s changing quickly – the increase in tourism and the new racetrack mean that a lot of money is being funneled into the island. Make sure to pay attention to where your money is going when you’re there! Find opportunities to support the locals and help protect their sacred places. And remember, bikinis are great for the beach, but please put clothes on whenever you leave the beach – even in touristy areas.
I hope you enjoy Lombok as much as I did! And I hope that this blog post helps you plan your trip. My blog is full of guides from my time in Southeast Asia. Grab a coffee and binge some of these helpful resources to plan your trip.
